These are the events we currently offer:
Shodaigyo Meditation
Contrary to popular belief, meditation is not just a silent practice. Chanting sutras is also considered a form of meditation. The primary meditation service in Nichiren Shu is known as Shodaigyo. “Shodai” literally means chanting Odaimoku (the sacred title of the Lotus Sutra) and “gyo” is practice. This service combines periods of silent meditation with chanting. This is a very different practice from sutra chanting services (daily service). Come join us for an unusual experience of chanting and drumming.

Lotus Sutra Study
Study of the Lotus Sutra, its history, its importance, and its application to daily life in the 21st century. Nichiren Shu relies on the Murano version; however, other versions may be used such as the Kato version [Threefold Lotus Sutra], the Reeves, or the Watson version. While the texts may not match word for word, we will do our best.

Service & Dharma Talk
Each week we offer dharma talks and conversation on fundamental aspects of our practice as Nichiren Buddhists. These talks come from various portions of the Lotus Sutra as well as from Nichiren Shonin’s writings. Come and explore the richness of Nichiren Buddhism, its traditions and its culture and learn how we can apply this Buddhism to our daily lives.

 Goibun Study
The study of the the writings of Nichiren Shonin. The plan is to eventually work our way through all of Nicheren Shonin’s writings as a means of developing faith and understanding the teachings of the Lotus Sutra.
